Re-assessment procedure

At my clinic, hearing aid re-assessment involves:-

History to collect necessary information about increasing hearing problems and any new medical problems relating to ears and hearing. Situations where you are having increased difficulty are recorded and graded to be used on an Outcome Measurement. medical problems are assessed to see if medical referral is appropriate.

Otoscopy to see if there are any problems in the ear canal and to the ear drum. Wax and debris can be removed. Referral for relevant medical opinion can be made.

Hearing Test to measure any changes to hearing thresholds

Real ear measurement of hearing aid in the ear (see below) to see if it is working to specification and fitted correctly to hearing targets

Adjustment of hearing aid to accurate take into account any changes to hearing loss.

Review to establish if changes made have reduced hearing problems. This is done with assistance of the Outcome Measurement. If not, further adjustments can be made.

Already have a Hearing Aid and not happy about its performance?

Hearing re-assessment can be performed if you already have a hearing aid. it is possible to assess how well it fits your hearing loss. There are different techniques available to the Audiologist and these can be viewed in the section ‘measuring hearing aid performance’.
